She prayed to the beat of a candle
knelt before the flickering sanctuary light
Once, long ago, she did not need signs & wonders,
she did not need the Shroud or Mother Teresa
But as she knelt in the dim monastery
her heart was hungry for illumination
Her faith was as fragile and wavering
in the night watches as that solitary candle
This small green orb has turned several times
toward dawn's pastel pink glow since then
Now, she walks Dubai sands
walks in sanctuary silence across Dubai concrete
Be her companion, Divine Mother
Sacred Sister, hold her hand
Be her light in the darkness, Mother,
illumine the secret chambers of her heart
