The dawn is cold, the sky
dim gray at 6:45 a.m.
I’m dressed, ready to drive to work.

We have kept: evenings alone,
walking through gardens,
listening to treasure chest hearts

opening.  Now the evening
grows cold; we wrap ourselves
together like a winter scarf.
