Gynecologic Pathology- Pap Smear I
Question No. 4. The Answer is: (A) Low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL).
Discussion: LSIL is a lesion of intermediate or superficial cells which are relatively mature and large. Other features of LSIL include nuclear atypia (enlargement, irregular contour, hyperchromasia, and slight chromatin coarseness) and cytoplasmic vacuoles (koilocytes). The cells in HSIL and squamous cell carcinoma are typically smaller. Cells of squamous cell carcinoma can be large in some cases but is not a typical feature.
