Gynecologic Pathology- Pap Smear I
Question No. 6. The Answer is: (B) Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US).
Discussion: Management guidelines (American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology 2002) for women with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) are repeat cytology at 4-6 months, HPV DNA testing (preferred if liquid-based cytology or co-collection available), or colposcopy; for women with LSIL and ASC-H are colposcopy; for atypical glandular cell cytology is colposcopy (with endocervical sampling) and endometrial sampling (in > 35 years or abnormal bleeding).
