Gynecologic Pathology- Pap Smear I

Question No. 18. The Answer is: (C) Adenocarcinoma, endometrial.

Discussion: The clusters of cells being shown here has an elongated, sausage-like arrangement that is highly suggestive of a glandular structure. The cells have only scant amount of cytoplasm. The cells are enlarged and overlap with each other. The cells have pleomorphic, hyperchromatic, and enlarged nuclei, and prominent nucleoli in some of the cells. This is most consistent with endometrial adenocarinoma. The age of the patient also raises a strong suspicion for endometrial malignancy.
