Discussion: Human placental lactogen(hPL) is the most specific marker for trophoblastic tissue and would thus be the best option for identifying products of conception. HCG is produced by syncytiotrophoblasts, but is less sensitive and specific than hPL. P16 would be positive in squamous cells. Cytokeratin and Ki-67 are unlikely to be helpful.
