Gestational Trophoblastic Disease

Question No. 18. The Answer is: (A) Botryoid clutsters are usually visible in first trimester abortuses.

Discussion: With the widespread use of prenatal ultrasound, most cases currently come from an evacuation procedure performed for lack of identifiable fetus. These early moles often do not show the characteristic grape-like clusters of enlarged villi, and usually are not of the quantity of tissue classically associated with molar pregnancy. The diagnosis often rests in careful microscopic examination of the aborted tissue.
