Discussion: Naegleria fowleri enters the nasal cavity during swimming or diving in fresh water colonized by the ameba. The ameba invade the roof of the nasal cavity, crossing the olfactory epithelium through the cribiform plate and enter the brain. N. fowleri meningoencephalitis is rare compare to the number of people whole live in warm climate and swim in fresh water. The reason for this discrepancy is uncertain.
