Nervous System- Infection & Inflammation I

Question No. 3. The Answer is: (E) Aspergillus species.

Discussion: Aspergillus species has a strong tendency to invade blood vessels. In addition, their irregular shape due to hyphae formation largely increased their risk to be trapped in the blood vessels. In general, fungi with hyphae formation are more prone to produce infarction and focal lesions. In contrast, yeast with round contour are more likely to produce disseminated meningitis with Cryptococcus as a good example.
