Molecular Pathology- Miscellaneous I

Question No. 13. The Answer is: (B) Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products.

Discussion: For the reverse blot, the ”probe” is bound to some solid support such as a membrane and a labeled product, produced from the patient sample during PCR amplification, is then hybridized to the membrane and subsequently detected typically by a colorimetric method. This is essentially the reverse of what is normally done during dot or slot blot hybridization whereby the patient sample is spotted onto the membrane (solid phase) and the probe is then applied in solution phase.
