Molecular Pathology- Miscellaneous I
Question No. 14. The Answer is: (A) Exons.
Discussion: Exons are the coding regions and introns are non-coding regions. A cistron is the smallest functional unit of heredity and is the segment of DNA that is involved in producing a polypeptide chain; it can include regions preceding and following the coding DNA as well as introns between the exons. Ailerons are the movable flaps on the wings of an airplane that is used in the control of rolling. Splice sites flank exons and introns and are required for orderly excision of introns and ligation of exons to generate the mature mRNA transcript for translation.
