Discussion:
- Arhinencephalon: The olfactory bulbs on
both sides are missing in this case.
- The two hemispheres are clearly separated and
therefore this specimen could not be a case of alobar
holoprosencephaly.
- The cerebral hemispheres are well formed and so
this is not a case of aprosencephaly which refers to a
condition that both telencephalon and diencephalon fail to develop.
- The cerebellum and pons are of normal size and
configuration and do not suggest olivopontine cerebellar
degeneration.
