Discussion:
- Part of the cerebellar folia are included in this
photograph (Þ).
Part of a cerebellar nuclei, most likely the dentate nucleus, is also present in
the other corner (ß).
If you compare the histology of the round structure with the cerebellar
cortex, it appeared at this level that it is composed of disorganized
tissue that has feature of the cerebellar folia. Specifically, features of the
internal granular layer and the molecular layer. This magnification is too low
for recognition of the Purkinje cells. The morphologic features of the
heterotopuic cells may vary from primitive appear cells reminiscent of the
primitive neuroepithelial cells to well developed and mature but disorganized
tissue with features of the internal granular layer, Purkinje cells, and
cerebellar molecular layer as illustrated in this case.
